Tips To Deal With ‘MASKNE’ a.k.a Mask Acne

Maskne is now actually a thing as many people are facing acne issues due to frequent use of mask during the pandemic crisis. People now enjoy wearing different designs of face masks but it is also leading towards acne breakouts, infections and chafing.

The masks trap humidity inside and leave oil and sweat on the skin which leads towards the overgrowth of microorganisms. The pores get blocked and acne pops out. Chafing occurs when an external surface is rubbed against your skin repeatedly causing inflammation and disruption. Even those people who have clear skin can have maskne or mask acne and chafing. People with thin, sensitive and chronic skin are more prone towards experiencing maskne.

According to the experts and dermatologists, if you are not a front line professional for pandemic then you can easily go for a lightweight cotton or silk mask to prevent yourself from maskne. This will increase breathability and decreases the moisture level and bacteria load within the masked area of your skin.

To avoid having mask acne, you must wash your mask regularly and also cleanse your face regularly. Make a routine of applying zinc-based SPF before putting on a mask. Zinc oxide is a mineral UV blocker and protects the skin. This works as a layer or seal over the skin and provides a level of protection under the mask.

As per the dermatologists, when bacteria, germs and moisture come together in a mask, they cause the worst kind of acne which causes inflammation. You must wash your mask daily and also keep spare ones. Use fragrant free and gentle detergents while washing your masks in order to avoid any sort of skin allergies.

Applying a nice soothing balm or cream can also help you deal with sensitive skin.  If you have a skin care routine then it is perfect, otherwise you must keep your skin cleansed at all times.

When maskne breakouts, be gentle on your skin. Go for soothing and hydrating products and get rid of strong active ingredient products. Use healing serums or skin soothing creams or a hydrating mask to keep your skin light and relaxed.
